Well, it was fun while it lasted. Looks like Google is planning on removing the feature that allows you to turn off RCS messages for individual contacts.

Google continues to control the monopoly on RCS messages. I was so excited about this, it looked like I can finally enjoy group chats again on my dumbphone. Even after de-registering from RCS on my end, and waiting 30 days, I would hear from family that I was missing messages in group chats. Restarting the chats and creating new groups didn't work for some reason. I thought Google Messages putting this fix in would finally do it for me! But I guess my excitement was short lived. Finally taking the step to fully r/degoogle now. Long overdue. Also thinking about just getting a new number on a dumbphone and hoping that RCS won't ever be an issue again for me again!
